[ ] A. 501. Grant by William, the prior, and the canons of Blakemore. The late Alan de Sanford, son of the late knt. their patron, Sir John de Sanford, had elected to be buried in their church near his forefathers, and Sir Gilbert Basset, uncle (advunculus) of the same Alan, had converted to their use 30 acres which lady Alice de Sanford held of them in Alfladewike, for the "remedium" of his said deceased grandson and knt.; and by this and other largesses the said Gilbert, with their said patron and lady Alice his wife, have caused their church to have perpetual memory of the deceased. Wherefore they grant to Gilbert and his heirs the right of presenting one canon, whom they shall be bound to admit; such canon to be called the 'Basset' canon. Essex. A. 516. Release by Sir Ralph son of Simon, and Ivecta his wife, to Sir Philip [Basset], of all their right to the lands granted to Sir Philip by the late John de Subiry, in Lammers, Henye, Clapton, and Twinstede, of which they promise to have a chirograph made before the King's Court when next the Justices in Eyre come into Essex: Sir Philip granting Ralph and Ivecta all lands he had by grant of the aforesaid John in Middelton and Subyry, paying two marcs yearly, and the services due to the abbot of St. Alban's as chief lord of the fee. [Essex.] A. 517. Demise by Lady Alice Marmyon, prioress of Wykes, to John Maunche, of their marsh by Maldon, with 100 ewes, 5 rams and 20 lambs (worth 12d., 3s.,and 6d. a piece respectively), for three years from Michaelmas, 31 Edw. III., at a yearly rent of 100s., the said John undertaking to restore the land and stock in good condition at the end of the term, marked with the prioress's mark, and allowing the steward of the convent to inspect such stock once a year at Michaelmas. Essex. A. 518. Grant by Guy the Clerk (Cl'icus), to John, son of Anselm de Claindone, of the land in Lemdon he held of Richard de Berdestaple, which belonged to Hugh de Lemdon, save a third part which Cecilia, last wife of the said Hugh, holds in dower for her life, with remainder to the said John; and also of land adjoining Lemdon church: paying 6s. yearly and a pair of gilt spurs. Grant by John de Burgh, son and heir of the late Sir Hubert de Burgh, Earl of Kent, to Peter de Huntingefeld, of the land called 'Wykeland' that he bought of Ralph, son of Oliver de Stanweye, in Lexendene and Stanweye, land in Lexendene called 'Westmeres,' and Walter de le Broc his nativus there; together with free fishing in his river of Lexendene from the new bridge to the mill, right of way over his land, and other privileges. Grant by Brian [rector of Lamersh], to Sir Ralph de Arderne and Alina de Beuchamp his wife, and the heirs of Alina, of licence to build a chapel in their court of Lamersh, saving the rights of the mother church of Lamersh, and provided the chaplains appointed to the said chapel take an oath to the rector to indemnify his church and pay over to it all offerings made to the chapel; such chapel to cease to exist if the said Ralph and Alina, or their heirs, grant their manor of Lamersh to any religious house. Witnesses:—Sir Philip Basset, Masters Thomas and William de Brainford, Sir Robert de Andretune, chaplain, Simon de Beauchamp, and others (named). Damaged.
[Essex.] A. 522. Agreement between Ralph, the prior, and the convent of Holy Trinity, London, and Master Edmund de London, the master, and the brethren of the house of St. Thomas of Acon, London, concerning an annual rent of 9s. 6d. the prior and convent were wont to receive for a mill in Stratteford, now destroyed, which the master and brethren held and the site whereof they still hold. The latter agree that the convent shall receive yearly 9s. 6d. of their rent issuing from the tenement William Poyntel holds of them without Bisshopesgate, London, for five years from Michaelmas next, the prior and convent having released to them all arrears of the said annual rent up to Michaelmas last. The master has also paid the prior 9s. 6d. for the rent between last Michaelmas and next. London, St. Valentine's day, 1305[–6], 34 Edward [I.].
Essex. A. 523. Grant by Hugh le Despenser to his "vadlettus," Thomas de Wydeslade, for life, of all his lands and tenements in Leyre, which Sir Thomas de Twynstede held for term of his life. Release by Stephen le Calicer, of Stokes "juxta la Eylonde," to Sir Hugh le Spenser, of the homage and service due from John le Holebrook for a certain tenement in Leyham that Sir Richard le Holebrook, knight, father of the said John, had by feoffment of Stephen. Grant by Henry, son of Robert de Aiswelle, to Sir Philip Basset, for 10 marcs, of the land Algard de la Heyse formerly held in Stapelford, and the increment of three acres of assart, he paying 6d. yearly and finding a man for one day within the Octaves of Christmas to repair the hedge of Havering Park, &c. [Essex.] A. 533. Release by Katherine, late wife of Sir William Giffard, knight, to Sir Hugh le Despenser, the younger, of the yearly pension of 10l. he granted her for life out of his manor of Lammersch. London, Saturday next after the Purification, 14 Edward II.

Annexed: Certificate that John de Wyvile and Ralph de Arderne, sent by the King's Council to John de Subiry detained by infirmity in the city of London, on Monday next after the Invention of Holy Cross, come and say that the same John was detained by infirmity, but was of good and sound memory, and quite understood and willingly agreed to the grant of lands he made to Philip Basset, who has the charter thereof, which was read before the said John and Ralph. It was therefore enrolled before the Council of our lord the King at Westminster, Monday next after the Invention of Holy Cross, in the year 38 [Henry III.]. Damaged.
Essex. A. 537. Release by Nicholas de Reshey to lady Alyne la Despensere, Countess of Norfolk, of the common of pasture he claims for all beasts in a certain field the Countess holds in demesne, called 'Reshey,' which was sometime a grove. Witnesses:—Sir Ralph, son of William de Pebeners, Sir Ralph de Wascoyl, John his son, John de Ry, and others (named). Sunday next before the Apostles Philip and James, 8 Edward I.

Grant by Emma, late wife of Gilbert Lynn, to Arnulph, son of Henry de Panfeld, and Fina his wife, for 40s., of two acres in Legh Magna, which she holds of the bishop of Norwich's fee, and a message that Gerald Clovelec had on his marriage with Alice her daughter, which they have released to her; paying 14d. yearly. Derby, Notts. Linc. Kent. Essex. A. 547. Indenture between Sir John St. John and Sir Henry Willoughby, knts., and Thomas Leeke and Roger Johnson, recoverers of divers lands, &c., of the late Henry Lord Grey. A bargain was made between Lord Grey and John Zouche for sale and purchase of the manor and castle of Codnore, and the manors and lordships of Henor, Losco, and Langley, co. Derby, and of Estwayte, co. Notts, all which Zouche was to have immediately on the decease of Lord Grey; and of the reversion of his lands in Bitame and Castle Bitame, co. Lincoln, and of lands in Essex and Kent worth 100l. yearly, belonging to the said lord, which Zouche was to have on the decease of Katherine, wife of Lord Grey: paying therefor 600 marcs, of which 100l. is paid to Dame Katherine, executrix and late wife to Lord Grey, and to the said Thomas Leeke. Thomas and Roger now agree to make to Sir John and Sir Henry (at the cost of the latter) a sufficient and lawful estate of the premises in cos. Derby and Nottingham, and a grant of reversion of the premises in cos. Lincoln, and of the reversion of lands in Kent and Essex, to the yearly value of 100l., to have to them after the decease of the said Katherine; Sir John and Sir Henry paying them 300l. therefor. 18 August, 15 Henry VII.

Bedf. Bucks. A. 549. Grant by Thomas Lee and William Marten, clerks, to John Duke of Suffolk of the manor of Grovebury and Leighton Busard with appurtenances in cos. Bedford and Bucks, or elsewhere, (which they lately had by feoffment of the Duke) for his life, without impeachment of waste; with remainders to Elizabeth, Duchess of Suffolk, William Hastyngs, of Hastyngs, knt., and others named, and after the Duchess's death to the right heirs of the Duke. They also appoint attorneys to give the Duke full possession of the premises. 20 October, 16 Edward IV. Portions of two seals.
Bedf. A. 550. Indenture between Thomas, abbot of Ramsey, and the convent there, and Dame Sybil, late wife of Sir Thomas de Dale, knt., touching the manor of Berkeford, called 'Dalys,' otherwise 'Leyham,' which Thomas, son and heir of the above Thomas, lately held of the abbey, and left to Sybil for her life, with reversion to himself and his heirs, and afterwards died, leaving a son and heir Thomas within age, whose wardship and marriage belong to the abbey; by whom they are hereby granted to Sybil for 100 marks, to be paid in the course of the next 20 years, upon conditions and covenants hereinafter specified. Final concord between Thomas Lucy and Henry Grey, knts., William Lucy, Richard Catesby, William Spencer, and others (named), plaintiffs, and Richard Humfrey and Joan his wife, deforciants, concerning the manor of Sharpenho alias Bekeryngis, and messuages and lands in Sharpenho, Bekeryngis, Sedgynho and Regmond. Demise by William Pecke and John his son to John, prior of Newenham, of all their lands and tenements in Bedford, Goldyngton, and Clopham, reserving to themselves, however, all chambers in the east end of their principal hall in St. Cuthbert's parish, Bedford, and the stable there with the house over it, and free entry into the garden on the north of the hall to walk there for recreation; except also a tenement called 'le Cok' with garden opposite, a tenement in which Richard Cours lives, a tenement in Goldyngton, and another in Bedford called 'Bysshope's House'; to be held for eight years from Christmas 1477, paying 8l. at once, and 40s. each year of the said term. 8 September, 16 Edward IV.
