1381. March 7.
Westminster.
To the treasurer and the chamberlains of Ireland for the time being. Order to pay to Robert de Lythum clerk 49l. 8s., or make him an assignation in Ireland where he may have prompt payment; as he has shewn the king that when Robert de Assheton was the late king's justice in Ireland he was by advice of the council then in Ireland and by commission of the late king appointed clerk to pay wages to the men at arms, hobblers and archers in the company of the justice, horse and foot, over and above the number specified in an indenture between that king and the justice, and of those abiding elsewhere in whatsoever parts of Ireland at the late king's wages, taking in that office the wages and fees accustomed, and that although he rendered true account, and such wages etc. were allowed him, he has thereof received nought, praying for remedy in consideration of his toil and expense in the execution of that office; and at the king's command the treasurer and the barons of the exchequer of Ireland have certified in the chancery of England that, upon search of the rolls and memoranda of that exchequer, it is found in the great roll of 49 Edward III that the said clerk accounted for wages paid as aforesaid from 21 June 46 Edward III to 28 October 48 Edward III, namely one year and a quarter and 28 days, whereupon he obtained allowance of the sum named for his wages at the rate of 2s. a day, and that the same is in arrear
