To the same. Mandate, recapitulating the preceding, to make provision to the above John [son] of Lachmannus Macfyngonii (who was formerly dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of an unmarried nobleman and a married noblewoman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, and who, before the said dispensation, but after he had been made a clerk, detained for about eight years the parish church of St. Moluog in the said diocese, value not exceeding 3l. sterling, de facto collated to him by authority of the ordinary, taking the fruits, which church he afterwards freely resigned; and on whose behalf John, bishop of Sodor, and John, earl of Ross, and the convent of the below-named monastery have petitioned the pope), if he be found fit, of the above monastery of St. Columba, Iona (Insule de Hy), O.S.B., in the diocese of Sodor, of the patronage of the earl of Ross, by special privilege of the apostolic see, by reason of his lordship of the Isles, value not exceeding 30l. sterling, void by the death of Dominic; provided that the said earl consent. The pope hereby specially dispenses him to receive the rule and administration of the said monastery, and rule it in spirituals and temporals, notwithstanding the said defect, etc., and furthermore grants that he may be blessed by any catholic bishop in communion with the apostolic see; without prejudice to the said bishop, to whom the said monastery is by ordinary right subject. To the abbot of the monastery of the Apostles Peter and Paul, Ratuaych, in the diocese of Ardfert. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of Edmund, abbot of the monastery of St. Mary, O'Dorney (de Kyrieleyson), O. Cist., in the diocese of Ardfert, contained that in the said diocese there are two rectories, called the rectories of Cuylogoich and Dubhact, canonically united to the monastery of St. Mary, Connayl, O.S.A., in the diocese of Kildare (Daren.), the fruits etc. of which rectories have been wont to be granted by the abbot and convent of Connayl for a farm or yearly pension of one mark sterling, but are at present withdrawn to the said monastery on account of the non-payment of the said pension although they have been detained against the will and consent of the said abbot and convent by Maurice Fizmores, clerk, of the said diocese of Ardfert; and that if the said fruits etc. were leased and assigned for life to the said abbot Edmund for such farm or pension, he would try to recover the said rectories and fruits etc. from the said Maurice, who is powerful, and would pay the said pension yearly to the abbot and convent of Connayl, and that this would be to the manifest advantage of both the said abbots and monasteries. The pope therefore hereby orders the above abbot to summon the said abbot and convent of Connayl and Maurice and others concerned, and if he find the foregoing to be true, to grant the said fruits etc. for life to abbot Edmund for a farm or yearly pension of one mark sterling, to be paid yearly to the abbot and convent of Connayl, removing therefrom any unlawful detainers. To Richard Cole, rector called the master alias warden of the hospital of St. John Baptist, Northampton, O.S.A., in the diocese of Lincoln. Dispensation, the said hospital being, as he alleges, very much burdened on account of the keeping of hospitality and the reception of persons and other misfortunes, (fn. 4) to receive and retain in commendam for life with the said hospital (value not expressed) or, if he resign that hospital, with any other hospital, any one other benefice with cure wont to be held by secular clerks, even if it be a parish church or its perpetual vicarage, or a chantry or a hospital, and to resign such benefice and the said hospital of St. John (or such other hospital), simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, etc. Vite etc. (P. and A.
