MEMBRANE 9d.

To the bishops of London and Lincoln. The king some time ago presented William de Plesseto, king's clerk, to the church of Eneford, then in the king's gift by reason of the voidance of the archbishopric of Canterbury, but Master Robert de Gloucestre asserted that he had been provided therein by the abbot of Boxley by authority of papal letters, so that a contention arose between them which the pope summoned for his own examination, and after many arguments gave judgment against the said William, the king's right not being brought into judgment, and commanded the above bishops to put the said Master into corporal possession ; and whereas by approved and ancient custom the king ought to present to such churches in voidances of sees and hereby his right would be injured, he has sent a solemn messenger with letters to the Apostolic See reciting his deed and right herein. Therefore he commands the said bishops, whose duty it is to protect his rights, by virtue of their oath of fealty, to attempt nothing about the said church against the said clerk, otherwise the king will proceed against them by their baronies as is fit.

MEMBRANE 8d.

Commission to Geoffrey de Langelegh, William de Mara and William de Kaerdif to deliver the gaol of Gloucester and do justice on the false moneyers on Saturday before the Purification.

MEMBRANE 7d.

Commission of oyer and terminer to Robert le Sauvage and William de Axemuth [substituted for Gilbert de Preston and Laurence de Broc] touching contentions lately arisen between the king's burgesses of Cambridge and the clerks of the university of that place, and the trespasses committed on both sides; and the king has commanded the sheriff of Cambridge to provide knights and other good men to make the inquisition, and in other things to be intendant to them for the preservation of the peace.

MEMBRANE 5d.

May 29. Winchester.

Notification to all bailiffs and others that, whether the truce with France made until Midsummer is broken or not, Clement de Snoht, citizen of Rouen, has licence to carry away the goods and merchandise which he has in England whither he will by sea or land, until Michaelmas.

Commission of oyer and terminer to Simon de Wauton touching a plea between Gilbert de Segrava, complainant, and Robert Patric and William de Haltsted, hinderers, as to the presentation to the church of Keggeworth.
