By an inquisition lately taken by John Waldeshef and Roger Chartres it has been found that the bridge of Huntyngdon is in a ruinous state, in many places broken through and at one part threatening to fall, and that divers legacies bequeathed in the past for the support of the bridge, for want of a keeper of the same, have not yet been used for the purpose. The late king caused the temporalities of Henry de Burghersh, bishop of Lincoln, to be taken into his hands, detaining them for a long time and converting the issues to his own use without making any restitution or satisfaction; and afterwards the cause for which he so seized them was adjudged to be no cause in the first parliament held in this reign. The king has, therefore, to save his father’s soul from peril on this account and to recompense the bishop for his losses in the premises and for his expenses at Stanhope and elsewhere in the service of the king after he assumed the governance of the realm, granted to him in fee the reversion of the manor of Hextredebury and other lands and tenements in Colern and Stroerte, co.
