GLOUCESTER.	Inq. (indented) taken at Cirencestre, Friday after St. Luke, 49 Edward III.
	Nethersudynton. The manor, held of the king in chief by service of one knight’s fee. She died on Monday after SS. Simon and Jude, 42 Edward III. John Worthe, knight, aged 26 years and more, is her kinsman and heir, to wit, son of Beatrice daughter of Eva daughter of Christina de Langelegh sister of John de Langelegh father of Geoffrey de Langelegh father of Geoffrey father of the said Joan. Immediately after her death John de Peyto, knight, entered into the manor and had possession of it for two years without title. After the two years John Trillowe, her husband, entered and had possession all his life, to wit, for four years, as tenant by the courtesy of England because he had issue by her. After his death John de Berdesle and Elizabeth his wife entered without title, and had possession for a whole year.

212.	ELIZABETH DAUGHTER AND HEIR OF WILLIAM TRUMWYN of Cannokbury.

STAFFORD.	Inq. (indented) taken at Cannok, 28 August, 49 Edward III.
	Cannokbury. A messuage and a virgate of land, held of the king in chief by grand serjeanty, to wit, by service of keeping the king’s hay of Chistelyn in his forest of Cannok and the bailiwick ‘del Heyghecank’ called ‘Trumwynesbaillie,’ and by service of rendering 20d. yearly at the Exchequer by the hands of the sheriff and 13s. 4d. yearly for the king’s use to John de Swynnerton, keeper of the forest of Cannok, for the said hay; and a carucate of land, 1a. meadow and a watermill, held of the bishop of Chester by service of rendering 32s. 8d. yearly and doing suit to the bishop’s court there every three weeks. Weston under Luseyord and Newton by Blythefeld. Three parts of the manors, according to the partition thereof into five equal parts, held of the earl of Arundel by knight’s service. Weston. The advowson of the church, to present at three turns (out of five?). Dunston. A messuage and a virgate of land, held of Simon de Pykstoke, service not known. Blymenhull. A fourth part of a carucate of land, held of the earl of Stafford by knight’s service. Stretton. 10s. rent, held of Geoffrey de Conegreve by payment of 2d. rent. Blymenhull. The advowson of the church, to present at every twelfth turn. She died on 20 July last. Isabel wife of William Reynald, her aunt, aged 30 years and more, is her next heir in blood. She has no issue by the said William. Endorsement: The said William Reynald and Isabel appeared in the Chancery in the quinzaine of Michaelmas in the same year, and acknowledged that they had no right in two-fifths of the said manors of Weston and Neweton, which ought to remain after the death of Elizabeth to Adam de Peshale and Elizabeth his wife by virtue of a fine levied before the justices of the Bench in 47 Edward III. Annexed: Indenture of a fine made before the said justices on the morrow of All Souls, 47 Edward III, between Adam de Peshale and Elizabeth his wife, querents, and Stephen de Bromley, clerk, deforciant, touching 20a. land and 50s. rent in Blemhull and Stretton and two-fifths of the manors of Weston under Leseyerd and Neuton by Blithefeld, held by Roger Lansant and Elizabeth his wife for the life of the latter, whereby the reversion of the premises after the death of the said Elizabeth wife of Roger was settled on the said Adam and Elizabeth his wife and the heirs of the body of Adam, with remainder to Isabel, Adam’s sister, and the heirs of her body, and with ultimate remainder to Adam’s right heirs.

	Wolfreton. The hamlet (extent given), parcel of the lordship of Richards Castle. Leyntwardyn in the march of Wales, parcel of the same lordship. 60s. rent of assise of free tenants. Baggesore. 4s. rent of assise. All held of the king in chief as parcel of the barony of Borford. He died on 18 February last. Richard his son, aged 5 years on 26 September last, is his heir.

	Richards Castle. The castle, town, and lordship (extent given, including toll of a market-day on the feast of St. Bartholomew). Recchesford. A moiety of the manor (extent given). Blethevagh. The lordship (extent given). All held of the king in chief as parcel of a moiety of the barony of Burford. He died on 16 February last. Heir as above, aged 5 years on 27 September last.

	Houbregg. It is held of John Plays, knight, by knight’s service. He died on 17 February last. Richard his son, aged 5 years and more, is his heir.

CAMBRIDGE.	Inq. taken at Cambridge, Thursday in Easter week, 49 Edward III.
	Westle Waterles. The manor (extent given), held in fee tail jointly with Joan his wife, deceased, by feoffment of Master John de Crek. He held it of the lord Fitz Walter by knight’s service. The extent includes a leet. Eleanor late the wife of William Crek receives a yearly rent of 8 marks from the manor by virtue of a writing of the said John de Crek. Edmund died on the feast of St. Laurence, 46 Edward III. Edmund, his son by the said Joan, aged 7 years at the feast of All Saints, 48 Edward III, is his heir. Immediately after his death the lord Fitz Walter entered on the manor as guardian, and has ever since received the profits thereof, except the said rent, by reason of the minority of the heir.

215.	MARGARET LATE THE WIFE OF ROBERT DE UMFRAMVILL, knight.

NORTHUMBERLAND.	Inq. taken at Ovyngham, 21 October, 49 Edward III.
	Ovyngham. A water-mill. Ovyngham and Prudhowe. A fishery in the river Tyne. Gilbert de Umframvill, earl of Angos, was seised of the premises in his demesne as of fee as parcel of the manor of Ovyngham, and granted them to Robert de Toures for 14 years. Afterwards, with the king’s licence because the manor is held of the king in chief, he granted the reversion of the premises after the said term to Robert de Umframvill, knight, his son, and Margaret the latter’s wife, now deceased, and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to himself and his heirs. Robert and Margaret entered and had possession of the premises, and died without issue. The premises are held of the king in chief by knight’s service as parcel of the manor of Ovyngham. Margaret died on 3 September last. Henry de Percy, knight, aged 30 years and more, is her next heir in blood. The premises pertain to the said earl of Angos, aged 60 years and more, and his heirs.
YORK.	Inq. taken at York, in the castle, 15 October, 49 Edward III.
	Hesill. The manor, held of the prince, as of his manor of Cotyngham, by service of rendering 2s. 3d. yearly. Paddokthorp. The manor, held of the lord de Percy by knight’s service. The said earl of Angus granted the said manors to Robert and Margaret and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to himself and his heirs. Robert and Margaret died without issue. LINCOLN.	Inq. (indented) taken at Lincoln, Wednesday after the Translation of St. Hugh, 49 Edward III.
	Stallyngburgh. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service. She held it in joint feoffment with the said Robert, her husband, by grant of the said earl of Angos, with the king’s licence, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the earl and his heirs. Robert and Margaret died without issue. Margaret died on 10 September last. The manor ought to revert to the earl and his heirs by the form of the above gift. Footnote: The charter of licence is dated 20 January, 13 Edward III.

	Combes. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, held of the king in chief in free socage by fealty only, as the jurors understand. The extent includes a leet on the feast of St. Barnabas. He died on 16 June last. William de Ufford, earl of Suffolk, aged 36 years and more, son of Robert de Ufford, late earl of Suffolk, his brother, is his kinsman and next heir.
NORFOLK.	Inq. (indented) taken at Hillyngton, Wednesday after the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 49 Edward III.
	Roughton. The manor, held of the earl of Suffolk, service not known. Hillyngton. The manor, held of Robert Barnag, service not known. Both the above he held for life of the inheritance of William de Ufford, earl of Suffolk, with reversion after his death to the said earl and his heirs. The earl granted the said reversion, by a fine levied in the king’s court, to Roger de Boys, knight, Adam Hautboys, clerk, John Pyshale, clerk, Ellis de Byntre, clerk, Reynold de Eccles, Robert de Aysshfeld, Roger de Wolferston, Henry Serjaunt, Thomas de Wroxham, and the heirs of the said Henry; and Edmund attorned to them. 219.	ROGER DE WALTHAM, citizen of London.
	Writ of precipimus, 30 October, 49 Edward III.
LONDON.	Inq. (indented) taken before the mayor, Monday the morrow of St. Martin, 49 Edward III.
	He died about the feast of the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 16 Edward III, seised of:— Parish of All Hallows the Great (ad Fenum). A tenement with a shop in Cosyneslane, a tenement with 2 cellars and a shop, a cellar with a solar built thereon in Cosynslane, and a quay by the Thames in the same lane. By his testament proved, proclaimed and enrolled in the husting of London for pleas of land held on Monday the feast of St. Mary Magdalen, 16 Edward III, he bequeathed all his lands, rents, tenements and quay in Cosynslane and Roperestrete to Edith his wife during her pure widowhood, with the following remainders after her death or re-marriage, to wit, (1) of the tenement with shop acquired from Mary late the wife of Robert Box and John her son, to John and Thomas his sons successively in tail, and then to his own right heirs; (2) of the tenement with 2 cellars and a shop acquired from Roger son of William de Coneford, to Thomas and John his sons successively in tail, and then to his own right heirs; and (3) of the cellar with solar above acquired from William de Parys and the quay acquired from the same William and Sir Henry Cosyn, clerk, to Thomas his son and Sibyl, Isabel, Katharine and Alice, his daughters, for life, in survivorship, and then to the lawful heirs of the body of Thomas, and, failing such heirs, for the maintenance of a chaplain to celebrate at the altar of St. Thomas in the church of All Hallows the Great for his soul and the souls of Edith his wife, William de Parys, John his father, Alice his mother, and all the faithful departed. By virtue of the said bequest Edith had possession of the premises and received the issues thereof for 7 years, and died still a widow, day not known. The said John, Thomas, Sibyl, Katharine and Alice the younger, and another Alice not named in the said testament, died during Edith’s lifetime without heirs of their bodies, day and year not known; and the said Isabel and a certain Joan not named in the testament, daughters and heirs of the said Roger, survived her and them. After Edith’s death Isabel was seised of the aforesaid cellar with solar and quay by virtue of the above bequest, and Isabel and Joan, as daughters and heirs of Roger, entered on the rest of the premises and received the issues thereof. Isabel died soon afterwards, day not known, without heir of her body; whereupon Bartholomew Frestlyng and Richard Wycombe, then churchwardens of the said church, with the assent of the parishioners entered on the said cellar with solar and quay and received the issues thereof and provided John Bonefant, chaplain, to celebrate as above. All subsequent churchwardens have done the like, and Bartholomew Frestlyng and Richard de Preston, the present wardens, provide Sir William de Coventre as chaplain. After Isabel’s death the said Joan, as daughter and heir of Roger and heir of Isabel, entered on the remainder of the premises and received the issues, and by her charter enrolled in the husting of London for common pleas held on Monday before St. Martin the Bishop, 25 Edward III, gave them to Bartholomew Frestlyng, citizen and corder of London, and his heirs and assigns. Bartholomew was seised thereof accordingly, and has ever since received the issues and profits thereof. All the premises are held of the king in free burgage, as is the whole city of London. Roger has no heirs now surviving, so far as the jurors can ascertain at present.

SOUTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Schirfelde, 2 January, 49 Edward III.
	Schirfelde. The manor (extent given), held for life jointly with Katharine his wife, with successive remainders to Thomas de Warbulton, his son, in tail male, and to his own right heirs. It is held of the king in chief by the grand serjeanty of being marshal of the harlots (meretricibus), dismembering condemned malefactors, and measuring gallons and bushels, in the king’s household. The extent includes a park with deer. He died on 21 September last. Thomas his son, aged 10 years and more, is his heir.

221.	ELIZABETH WARDE.
	Writ, 26 September, 49 Edward III.
CAMBRIDGE.	Inq. taken at Cambridge, 12 October, 49 Edward III.
	Folburne. The manor (extent given), held jointly with William Warde, her husband, deceased, of the king in chief by service of half a knight’s fee and 4s. yearly for sheriff’s aid, and by suit to counties and hundreds &c. By a fine levied in the king’s court and with the king’s licence the said William and Elizabeth granted the manor to John Petyt, clerk, and his heirs. John regranted it to them for life, retaining the reversion; and afterwards, with the king’s licence and by a like fine, granted the said reversion to John del Isle, now deceased, son of John del Isle of Kent, and his heirs. Elizabeth died on Thursday after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross last. Alice sister of the said John son of John del Isle, aged 24 years and more, is next heir to the manor. John de Coleville, knight, has married her, and has sons and daughters by her. Footnote: The date of the charter of licence is 20 October, 27 Edward III.
CAMBRIDGE.	Inq. taken at Sauston, 11 October, 49 Edward III.
	Sauston. The manor (extent given), held for life jointly with Simon Perot, formerly her husband, to wit, to them and the heirs of Simon, of the king in chief by service of 1 1/2 knights’ fees and 8s. yearly for sheriff’s aid, and by suit to counties and hundreds. Simon died without heir of his body, and Katharine and Emma, his sisters, were his next heirs. Robert Deddam has married Emma, and Henry Wardedieu Katharine. Sauston. 7 messuages, 70a. land, 6a. meadow and 6a. pasture, held of divers lords, services not known. She and William Warde, her second husband, acquired them from Gilbert Bernard, Nicholas Ryssing and others, to hold to them and the heirs of the said William. The aforesaid Robert Deddam and Emma, with the king’s licence, granted the reversion of a moiety of the manor after the death of Elizabeth to the said William Warde and his heirs, and he granted the reversion thereof, and of the 7 messuages &c. in Sauston, after the deaths of himself and Elizabeth, to Richard de Kelleshulle, the younger, and Margery his wife, William’s daughter, and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to Richard’s right heirs. Richard and Margery died without heirs of their bodies, whereupon the right to the said reversion descended to [Thomas de Sancto Edmundo], (fn. 1) Agnes, and Isabel, kinsfolk and next heirs of the said Richard. William atte Ree married Agnes, and Richard Shakyliston married Isabel, and the four of them [with Thomas] (fn. 1) granted the reversion after the death of Elizabeth to Robert de Thorp, son of William de Thorp, knight, and his heirs, by fines levied in the king’s court in 44 Edward III. Robert is dead, and William de Thorp, knight, his brother, aged 24 years and more, is his next heir. As to the other moiety of the manor, Henry Wardedeu and Katharine his wife, by a fine levied in the king’s court and with the king’s licence, granted the remainder thereof to William Warde and Elizabeth his wife for life, reserving the reversion to themselves and the heirs of Katharine. Katharine is dead, and Henry is the next tenant for life. Date of death as above. Sauston. A messuage, 25a. land, 2 1/2a. meadow, 3a. pasture, and 3s. 4d. rent, held for life of divers lords by demise of the said Henry, with reversion to him.

222.	ROGER LE WALSSH.

DORSET.	Inq. taken at Dorchestre, Saturday after St. Nicholas, 49 Edward III.
	Langeton in Purbyk. The manor, held of the earl of Salisbury by knight’s service, except a toft therein which is held of the king in chief by knight’s service. Estchikkerel. The manor, held of Alice Malet and Simon Bryd by service of petty serjeanty. Stokke. The manor, held of the heir of John Mautravers of Lichet, and demised by Roger on Wednesday the feast of St. Clement, 47 Edward III, to William Latymer for life at a yearly rent of 10 marks; and William paid the rent in hand for four years from the date of the demise. All the above he held jointly with Joan his wife, lately deceased, by gift and feoffment of John Heryng, chaplain, and Thomas atte See, who gave the manor to them and the heirs of their bodies. He died on Tuesday before All Saints last. Margaret relict of Adam Soidon, aged 30 years and more, is daughter and heir of the said Roger and Joan.

KENT.	Inq. (indented) taken virtute officii at Rochester, Wednesday after St. Botolph, 49 Edward III.
	She took the habit of the order of St. Benedict at Hedyngham, co. Essex, at the age of 14 years, and was professed therein in 47 Edward III, day not known. On the day of her profession she held:— Clyve. 18a. marsh called ‘Meedmersh,’ held of the king by knight’s service, as of the barony of his castle of Leybourne. On the day of her profession the premises descended to Joan wife of Stephen de Delham and Alice wife of Robert Freman as her sisters and heirs. Stephen and Joan died about the Purification last, when Joan’s [share] descended to Joan, aged 12 years and more, and Ellen, aged 7 years and more, her daughters by Stephen. Alice wife of Robert still survives.

GLOUCESTER.	Inq. taken at Mitcheldean, 3 February, 50 Edward III.
	Ruardyn. A waste messuage, a dovecot, 80a. arable and 26s. 8d. rent of assise, held of the king in chief by service of paying 4s. to the king’s castle of St. Briavels. Seyntbrevel. A messuage and 40a. land, held of the king in chief by service of [rendering] 28s. yearly and being the king’s chief forester throughout the forest of Dene. He died on 2 January last. Elizabeth, aged 10 years, Sibyl, aged 8 years, Ellen, aged 7 years, and Maud, aged 5 years, are his daughters and heirs.
	Writ to the escheator,—on information that the said Thomas had only three daughters, none being named Elizabeth, on the day of his death,—to enquire as to the truth of the matter. 24 January, 5 Richard II.
GLOUCESTER.	Inq. taken at Ruardyn, 4 February, 5 Richard II.
	The said Thomas had three daughters only on the day of his death, all still surviving, to wit, Isabel, now aged 16 years and more, Sibyl, now aged 14 years and more, and Ellen, now aged 13 years and more.
