Mr. John Ashe reports divers Fines and Compositions from the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall: Whereupon it is resolved as followeth; viz.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of Eight hundred Eighty-nine Pounds Ten Shillings, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Robert Walker, of the City of Exeter, Merchant: His Offence is, That, being one of the Members of the Commons House of Parliament, he deserted the Parliament, and assisted the Forces raised against it: He rendered upon the Articles agreed on at the Surrender of that City: His Estate, in Fee, per Annum, Two hundred and Fifty-four Pounds Seventeen Shillings and Four-pence; in Old Rents, per Annum, Fifteen Pounds Ten Shillings and Ten-pence; for Seventeen Years, per Annum, Sixteen Pounds; for Three Lives, per Annum, Eighty-nine Pounds Eighteen Shillings; in personal Estate, One thousand Six hundred and Ninety-two Pounds Twelve Shillings: For which his Fine, at a Tenth, is Eight hundred Eighty-nine Pounds Ten Shillings.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto Robert Walker, of the City of Exeter, Merchant, for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of Eight hundred Sixty-eight Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Sir Thomas Bridges, of Kainsam in the County of Somersett, Knight: His Offence, That he was in Arms against the Parliament: He rendered before December 1645: His Estate, in Fee, per Annum, Five hundred and Eighty-eight Pounds Eleven Shillings and Twopence; in old Rents, per Annum, Fifty-four Pounds Six Shillings and Eleven-pence; Out of which issues, for One Life, per Annum, Sixty Pounds; and there is charged upon Part of the Lands compounded for, for the Father's Will, Three thousand Pounds, yet unpaid: Which, being allowed, leaves the Fine, at a Tenth, One thousand Two hundred and Sixty-eight . . . . . .: But, if he settle the Rectory of Kainsam, of the Value of Forty Pounds per Annum, for Increase of Maintenance to the Minister of Kainsam, and his Successors for ever, he is to be allowed Four hundred Pounds: And the Fine remains Eight hundred and Sixty-eight Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto Sir Thomas Bridges, of Kainsam in the County of Somersett, Knight, for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent to the Lords for their Concurrence.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto Sir Peregrine Bertie, of Eveden in the County of Lincoln, Knight, for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

That this House doth accept of the Sum of Four hundred and Seventy Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Sir Thomas Badde, of Faireham, in the County of Southampton, Knight and Baronet: His Offence is, That he assisted the Forces raised against the Parliament: He rendered upon the Articles of Oxford: His Estate, in Fee, per Annum, Two hundred and Forty Pounds; for Three Lives, per Annum, One hundred and Fifty Pounds: Out of which issues One hundred Pounds per Annum, for One Life: Which leaves the Fine, at a Tenth, Five hundred and Thirty Pounds: But if he settle Thirty Pounds per Annum, for Five Years to come, being the Term which he hath in the Impropriation of Lunnington, holden from the Bishop of Bristoll, for Increase of Maintenance to the Minister there, then his Fine to be Four hundred and Seventy Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto Sir Thomas Badd, of Faireham in the County of Southampton, Knight and Baronet, for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of Thirteen hundred and Forty Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of John Hurleston, of Picton in the County of Chester, Esquire; and John Hurleston his Son and Heir Apparent: The Offence of the Father, That he left his own Habitation, and went into and resided in the Enemies Quarters: The Son was in Arms against the Parliament: Rendered in April, 1646; but took the Covenant the Three-and-twentieth of March, 1645: Their Estate, in Fee, in Possession, per Annum, Four hundred and Thirty Pounds; in old Rents, per Annum, Thirteen Pounds: Out of which issues, per Annum, for Four Years, Sixty Pounds: Which leaves the Fine, at a Tenth, Eight hundred and Ninety Pounds; at a Sixth, Thirteen hundred and Forty Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto John Hurleston, of Picton in the County of Chester, Esquire, and John Hurleston his Son, for their Delinquencies, and for taking off the Sequestration of their Estates, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

That this House doth accept of the Sum of Two hundred Eighty-three Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Edward Andrewes, of Oxton in the County of Nottingham, Esquire: His Offence, That he was in Arms against the Parliament: He rendered before December, 1645: His Estate, in Fee, in Possession, per Annum, Eighteen Pounds Fifteen Shillings; in Reversion, per Annum, Eighteen Pounds; after Fourteen Years, per Annum, Twelve Pounds; for Three Lives, per Annum, One hundred Pounds; personal Estate, Thirteen hundred Pounds: for which his Fine, at a Tenth, is Two hundred and Eighty-three Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto Edward Andrewes, of Oxton in the County of Nottingham, Esquire, for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

That this House doth accept of the Sum of Five hundred Seventy-four Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of John Talbott, of Thornton in the Street in the County of York, Esquire: His Offence, That he was in Arms against the Parliament: Rendered in March, 1644: His Estate, in Fee, in Possession, Three hundred and Ten Pounds Fourteen Shillings and Six-pence: Out of which issues Thirteen Pounds Thirteen Shillings per Annum, for ever; and Twenty Pounds per Annum, for One Life: Which leaves the Fine, at a Tenth, Five hundred and Seventy-four Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto John Talbott, of Thornton in the Street in the County of York, Esquire, for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

That this House doth accept of the Sum of Five hundred and Seventy Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Sir Francis Dowse, of Wallop, in the County of Southampton, Knight: His Offence, That he deserted his own Dwelling, and resided in the Enemies Quarters: He rendered in November, 1645: His Estate, in Fee, per Annum, Two hundred Pounds; in old Rents, per Annum, Five Pounds; for One Life, per Annum, Two hundred Pounds; in personal Estate, Eight hundred and Twenty Pounds: Out of which issues, for ever, per Annum, Eight Pounds Eight Shillings; for One Life, per Annum, Thirty-six Pounds: Which leaves the Fine, at a Tenth, Five hundred and Seventy Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto Sir Francis Dowse, of Walloppe in the County of Southampton, Knight, for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of Two hundred Twenty-two Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Hustwait Wright, of Stallingburrow in the County of Lincoln, Gentleman: His Offence, That he was in Arms against the Parliament: He rendered before May 1646: His Estate, in Fee, per Annum, Seventeen Pounds; in personal Estate, One thousand Four hundred and Five Pounds Five Shillings and Nine-pence: He owes Three hundred and Fifty Pounds: The Fine, at a Sixth, is Two hundred and Twenty two Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto Hustwait Wright, of Stallingborough in the County of Lincoln Gentleman, for a Fine, for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

That this House doth accept of the Sum of Eight hundred Eighty-seven Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Thomas Crompton, of Dryfeild in the County of York, Esquire: His Offence, That he was in Arms against the Parliament: He rendered before December, 1645: His Estate in Fee, per Annum, Three hundred and Sixty Pounds; in old Rents, per Annum, Twelve Shillings; in Reversion, per Annum, One hunred Pounds; personal Estate, Six hundred and Thirtyfive Pounds: For which his Fine, at a Tenth, is Eight hundred and Eighty-seven Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto Thomas Crompton, of Dryfield in the County of York, Esquire, for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

That this House doth accept of the Sum of One hundred Forty-and-four Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of George Hussey, of Hemsworth in the County of Dorsett, Gentleman: His Offence, That he was in Arms against the Parliament: He rendered before December 1645: His Estate, in Fee, per Annum, Fortythree Pounds Six Shillings and Eight-pence; in Reversion, per Annum, One hundred Pounds; for One Life, per Annum, Eight Pounds, charged with Five hundred Pounds; For which his Fine, at a Tenth, is One hundred and Forty-four Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto George Hussey, of Hemsworth in the County of Dorsett, Gentleman, for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

That this House doth accept of the Sum of Four hundred Forty-and-four Pounds, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of Sir John Talbott, of Salisbury in the County of Lancaster, Knight: His Offence, That he assisted the Forces raised against the Parliament: Rendered in January 1645: His Estate, in Fee, per Annum. One hundred and Forty Pounds: Out of which issue Two Pounds per Annum, a Quit Rent: Which leaves the Fine, at a Sixth, Four hundred Forty-and-Four Pounds.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto Sir John Talbott, of Salisbury in the County of Lancaster, Knight, for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration, of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of the Sum of One hundred Thirty-seven Pounds Eight Shillings and Eight-pence, for a Fine, for the Delinquency of John Martyn, of Plymouth in the County of Devon, Merchant: His Offence, That he forsook his own Habitation, and went into and resided in the Enemies Quarters, and was assistant unto them: He rendered upon the Articles of Barstable: His Estate, in Fee, per Annum, Fifty-four Pounds Three Shillings and Four-pence; in old Rents, per Annum, Two Pounds Seventeen Shillings; in Reversion, per Annum, Twelve Pounds; for which his Fine, at a Tenth, is One hundred and Thirty-seven Pounds Eight Shillings and Eight-pence.

An Ordinance for granting a Pardon unto John Martin, of Devon, Merchant, for a Fine for his Delinquency, and for taking off the Sequestration of his Estate, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be sent unto the Lords for their Concurrence.

Propositions to the King, &c.

A Letter from the Commissioners of this House, employed to the King to the Isle of Wight, from Newport, of 26 Decembris 1647; with the Copy of a Paper inclosed, examined and attested by Colonel Robert Hammond, Governor of the Isle of Wight; and subsigned Lowdenne, Lauderdaill, Charles Erskin, Hew Kennedy, Ro. Barclay, wherein they do express, in the Name of the Kingdom of Scotland, their Dissent from these Propositions, and Bills, now tendered unto his Majesty; were this Day read: And

Ordered, That a Letter of Thanks be returned to the Commissioners and Governor of the Isle of Wight, for their Care and Diligence in this Business.

Resolved, &c. That the House do take this Paper into Consideration on Thursday Morning next, at Ten of the Clock, the first Business; and nothing to intervene.

Newcastle, &c. Garisons.

The humble Petition of the Mayor and Burgesses of the Town and County of Newcastle upon Tyne was this Day read.

The humble Remonstrance of the County of Northumberland, presented by the Justices and Grand Jury at the publick Sessions, holden at Morpeth the Seventh of October 1647, was this Day read.

Resolved, &c. That it be referred to the Committee of the Army, to take special Care for the speedy Supply, and full Provision, of the Garison of Newcastle and Tynmouth, with Provisions, Ammunition, and constant Pay for the same; and to take the Petition from the said Town, this Day read, into Consideration.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Army, to take speedy Course for bringing to Account what Monies have been received and disposed of for the Garison of Newcastle and Tynmouth, either of the Receipts of the Customs, Excise, Sale of Victuals, or otherwise.

Ordered, That the Accompts of the Free Quarter, taken by the Forces under the Command of Sir Thomas Fairfax, in the Garisons of Newcastle, Gateside, and Tynmouth, since the Removal of the Scotts Forces out of those Places, be stated: And that the Inhabitants of those Places shall have the Publick Faith of the Kingdom for Repayment of so much Monies as shall appear due upon the Stating of the said Accompts, for Free Quarter; Allowance for the said Free Quarter being made, according to the Proportions allowed for Free Quarter to other Places, where Free Quarter has been taken by other Forces.

Bishop of Duresme.

An Ordinance for confirming the Allowance formerly assigned to the Bishop of Duresme, of Eight hundred Pounds per Annum, was this Day read the First time.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Selden carried to the Lords, for their Concurrence, Two Ordinances for paying, by each, the Sum of a Thousand Pounds to Mr. Patricke Young, for his Encouragement, in printing the most ancient Copy of the Greek Septuagint Bible, and other Greek Manuscripts, out of the Moiety of Excise, and Moiety of the Receipts at Goldsmiths Hall, in Course: An Ordinance for Five thousand Two hundred and Seventy-four Pounds Sixteen Shillings and Eleven-pence to Mr. Aldworth, out of the Moiety of the Receipts of the Excise, in Course.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edward Leech and Mr. Page;

The Lords have thought fit to enlarge the Marquis of Winton's Leave for his Liberty for Four Months longer, for the Recovery of his Health; which was much impaired by his Imprisonment: To send a Petition of the Lord Cromwell; which they do recommend to your special Consideration, in respect of his Nobility, and the Loss of his Estate in Ireland, taken by the Rebels: An Order for Leasing of the Lands of the College of Westminster; Wherein they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The Lords desire to put the House in mind of a Petition of the Lady Cawfeild, which they formerly sent to this House.

Northumberland, &c. Sequestrations.

Ordered, That the Sequestrations of the Lands and Estates of Delinquents in the County of Northumberland, and the Sequestrations of the Lands and Estates of Delinquents in the County of Newcastle upon Tyne, respectively, be granted to the said respective Counties; and received and detained in the Hands of the respective Sequestrators of the said Counties; and disposed of, upon Account, by the Commissioners named in the Ordinance for the monthly Assessments of Sixty thousand Pounds (who are likewise, by former Order, made Committees of Sequestrations in the said respective Counties) towards the Satisfaction of those publick Engagements and Debts due unto the said respective Counties, by Act of Parliament or otherwise.

Ordered, That the Business of Newcastle be taken into further Consideration on Saturday Morning next.
