Sewster's Conveyances.

L. 1a. AN Act to make void certain Conveyances unconscionably gotten, without valuable Consideration, from Gyles Sewster Esquire, and Sam. Sewster, his Son and Heir.

Privilege.

Mr. Humfreyes informeth, that one Henry Lee, a Servant to Mr. Bulstrode, a Member of this House, hath been arrested at Melcombe Regis, and is there detained, the Mayor refusing to deliver him, though he know him to be Mr. Bulstrode his Servant, and him to . . a Member of this House.

1. Resolved, upon Question, That Henry Lee, the Servant, shall have Privilege; and an Habeas Corpus, to bring him hither.

2ly, Resolved, upon Question, That the Mayor of Melcombe Regis shall be sent for, to answer his Contempt to the House.

3ly, That Tho. Blatchford, that caused him to be arrested, and that hath given Security in 200l. to save the Mayor harmless against this House, shall be also sent for, to answer the Contempt.

4ly, Upon Question, the Mayor to be required to bring with him the Officer who arrested the said Henry Lee.

Sea-coals.

L. 2a. - Sea-coals. - Committed to Knights and Burgesses of London, Westmynster, Middlesex, Essex, Sussex, Surrey, and Kent, and Hertford, and of the Port Towns, Mr. Taylor, Sir P. Ryddall: - Thursday, Two Clock, in the Court of Wards.

Imposition on Wines.

Mr. Whitby reporteth, from the Committee for Grievances, the Petition of the Merchants, for Wines, concerning the Imposition of 20 s. in the Port of London, and of 13 s. 4 d. in the other Ports, upon every Tun of Wine. -

That this Imposition was, upon Question, una voce of all the Committee, resolved to be a Grievance, both in the Creation and Execution. -

Moved, we should be wary of complaining, in this Case, de tanto; lest that include a Right of imposing; which hitherto hath never been yielded here. - To disavow the Assent of those Merchants which yielded to the Payment of this Imposition, wherewith the general is not to be bound. -

That 51 Ed. III. (which was the last Imposition set, till 4o Mariae) Latymer and Lyons sentenced, for imposing without Assent in Parliament.

Ordered, upon Question, That a select Committee shall take Consideration of the Matter now reported, concerning the new Imposition upon Wines. -

Herberte, Mr. Rolles, Sir Eb. Herberte, Sir H. Poole, Sir H. Whytehead, Mr. Wentworth. Mr. Delbridge, Mr. Sherwyn, Mr. Cage, Sir P. Haman: - Two Clock, upon Wednesday next, Star-chamber.

This Committee hath also Power to send for all the Books of Rates, which have been made sithence 1o Eliz. and for any Merchants, or others, to inform them.
