Leland stated that there was once a hospital in the town, but when he visited it only the name of 'Spittle remained in testimony thereof.' (fn. 1)
45. THE HOSPITAL OF TEWKESBURY
There was a leper hospital at Tewkesbury in 1200. (fn. 2)
46. THE HOSPITAL OF HOLY TRINITY, STOW ON THE WOLD
The hospital of Holy Trinity, Stow on the Wold, is said to have been founded before the Norman Conquest. (fn. 3) It was intended for the maintenance of poor women and a chaplain to serve them. (fn. 4)
In 1535 the yearly revenues amounted to £25 4s. 4d. (fn. 5)
