PRAYERS.

Prince Elector.

THE Lord Herbert presented, in Writing, the Prince Elector's Answer, by Word of Mouth, by his Highness, to the Message of both Houses, delivered unto him by a Committee of both Houses, upon Saturday, August ultimo, 1644: The which was read.

Defence of Middlesex.

An Ordinance for appointing a Committee for putting the County of Middlesex, without the Lines of Communication, in a Posture of Defence, by regulating the Trained Bands, and levying of other Forces for the Defence of the said County, was this Day read the First time.

Defence of London, &c.

An Ordinance for raising of Monies for maintaining the Fortifications and Guards, and for other necessary Uses, for Preservation and Defence of the Cities of London and Westminster, Parliament, and Places adjacent, was this Day read the First *

Prince Elector.

Resolved, &c. That Sir Oliver Flemming, Master of the Ceremonies, be from this House required to give his Attendance upon the Prince Elector during his Abode in this Kingdom.

Leave of Absence.

Ordered, That Mr. Broxholme shall have the Leave of this House to go into the Country.

Brereton, &c. thanked.

Ordered, That Mr. Ashherst do prepare a Letter of Thanks to be returned unto Sir Wm. Brereton, in Acknowledgment of his many and great Services; and therein to take Notice of the brave and gallant Carriage of Serjeant Major Jones.

Meldrum thanked.

Ordered, That Sir Tho. Widdrington and Sir Wm. Strickland do prepare a Letter of Thanks to be sent to Sir Jo. Meldrum, in Acknowledgment of his many great and faithful Services done; and that the Committee appointed to consider what is fit to be done for him, do meet; and report to the House.

Northamptonshire.

Ordered, That the Ordinance concerning Northamptonshire, be read To-morrow Morning.

Leicestershire.

Ordered, That the Business concerning Leicestershire be heard To-morrow Morning peremptorily, the first Business.

Dep. Lieuts. of Rutland.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth nominate and approve of Sir Edw. Harrington Knight, Robert Horseman senior Esquire, Mr. Osbourne Esquire, Evers Armyn Esquire, to be Deputy Lieutenants for the County of Rutland.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Message to Lords.

Mr. Whitelock carried up to the Lords, for their Concurrence, the Ordinance for making Tho. Hoyle Esquire, a Member of this House, Mayor of Yorke; The Ordinance concerning Worcestershire; The Ordinance for securing Five thousand Pounds advanced by the Treasurers of One per Cent. for Plymouth; A Second and Reinforcing Ordinance for Two thousand Pounds per Month to come out of the Excise, for furnishing the publick Stores with Arms and Ammunition; The additional Committees for Oxfordshire; The Deputy Lieutenants for the County of Rutland.

Bishop of Canterbury.

A Message from the Lords, by Doctor Aylett and Doctor Heath;

The Lords have appointed Wednesday come Sevennight for the further Hearing of the Cause concerning the Bishop of Canterbury.

Ordered, That on Friday next, the House do consider of proceeding against the Bishop of Canterbury, by Ordinance: And Mr. Speaker to put the House in mind hereof.

Assessments for Ireland.

An Ordinance for the Raising of Eighty thousand Pounds for the Service of Ireland, by way of weekly Assessments set upon each several and respective Counties, was this Day read the First and Second time; and committed to a Committee of the whole House: Who are to meet on Thursday next, to take it into Consideration.

Middlesex Horse.

Ordered, That the Proportion of Horse for the County of Middlesex, without the Line, for this present Service, shall be Thirty; provided that it be not drawn into Example.

City Horse.

Ordered, That the Committees of London and Middlesex, within the Line of Communication, do forthwith meet, and agree of the Proportion of Horse that are to be raised within the City, and Line of Communication.

Ordnance Stores.

Ordered, That One hundred Barrels of Powder, and Ten Ton of Match, be forthwith provided and sent to my Lord General: And the Lieutenant of the Ordinance is required to issue the same out of the Stores accordingly.

Answer from Lords.

Mr. Whitlock reports from the Lords, That the Lords agree to the Ordinance for the Payment of Two thousand Pounds; and to the Ordinance for Mr. Hoyle to be Mayor of York: And, as to the rest, will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Serjeant Whitfeild and Doctor Heath;

That the Lords taking Notice of the great Differences between the Commanders in Chief, and the Committees in several Counties, have nominated a Committee of Ten, to consider of a Way for regulating the said Differences, and preventing the Inconveniencies which may happen: And do desire the House of Commons would nominate a proportionable Number to join with them; and They to have Power to meet and adjourn from time to time: To meet on Friday in the Afternoon, in the Lord Keeper's Lodging.

They have likewise sent down some Names to be added as Committees for the Counties of Oxon, Berks, and Buck'; videlicet, the Earl of Pembroke, Lord Viscount Say and Seale, Lord Wharton, John Selden, and John Blagrave, Esquires: They do agree to the Persons for Deputy Lieutenants for Rutland; and have sent down Two Names more to be added as Deputy Lieutenants for that County; videlicet, Sir James Harrington and Colonel Waight.

County Committees, &c.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth concur with the Lords in those Names for Committees for Oxon, Berks, and Bucks; and that Sir James Harrington be added to be a Deputy Lieutenant for the County of Rutland: And, as to Colonel Waight, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Assessment for Ireland.

Resolved, &c. That the Ordinance for raising of Eighty thousand Pounds for Ireland shall be committed to a Committee of the whole House: Who are to meet on Thursday next, at Eight of Clock, to take the same into Consideration.

Guernsey.

Ordered, That the Committee for Guernsey be revived, to meet To-morrow, at Two of Clock in the Afternoon, in the Exchequer Chamber.
