PRAYERS.

Message from H. C. with a Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Wylde and others; who returned a Bill for settling Sir John Bankes' Estate, wherein the Commons have made some Amendments, and desire their Lordships Concurrence thereunto.

Lords take the Oaths.

This Day the Earl of Craven and the Earl of Feversham took the Oaths of Supremacy and Allegiance, and subscribed the Declaration against Transubsiantiation, pursuant to the Act for preventing the Dangers which may happen from Popish Recusants. The Witnesses were sworn, and examined by the Lord Chancellor, as to the Truth of his (fn. 1) Lordship's Certificate concerning (fn. 1) his receiving of the LORD'S Supper.

Bill to prevent the Growth of Popery.

The House was adjourned into a Committee, to consider the Bill for the better suppressing the Growth of Popery.

The House was resumed.

And the Earl of Bridgwater reported, "That the whole Bill hath been read over; but the Committee desires that the further Consideration of this Bill may be put off until Tuesday Morning next; and that the Judges may be appointed to be then present, for their Assistance and Advice, as Need shall require; and that then the House may be put again into a Committee."

Which was ordered accordingly.

ORDERED, That the Lord Delamer hath Leave to go into the Country, for his Health.

Countess of Warwick versus Jones, for arresting Thornhill, her Servant, Privilege.

Upon reading the Petition of Anne Countess of Warwick and Holland; complaining, "That Robert Thornhill, her Servant, was arrested, contrary to the Privilege of Parliament, at the Suit of Thomas Jones; praying that the said Thomas Jones might be summoned to answer the same:"

A Petition of the said Thomas Jones was offered to the House.

The Question being put, "Whether the said Petition shall be now read?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Then the said Petition of Thomas Jones was read; alledging, "That the said Robert Thornhill was no Servant of the said Countess, he being a common Solicitor, and was in Prison upon a Writ of Capias Utlagatum."

The House hereupon made the ensuing Order; (videlicet,)

"Upon reading the Petition of Anne Countess of Warwick and Holland, complaining of a Breach of Privilege of Parliament, committed by Thomas Jones and others, against Mr. Robert Thornhill her Servant (as in the Petition is alledged), by arresting him, upon a Writ of Capias Utlagatum in April last, sitting the Parliament; as also upon reading the Petition of the said Thomas Jones, relating to the Matter complained of by the said Countess of Warwick: It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will hear the said Countess of Warwick and Thomas Jones, to make out the Matters in their respective Petitions set forth, on Friday the Tenth Day of this Instant May, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon".

Adjourn.
