Upon reading a memorial from Mr. Whitfeild for 34,373l. 17s. 0½d. for subsistence and clearings to the Marines to the several times therein mentioned the Lord Treasurer orders that said sum shall be paid to said Whitfeild for those uses out of the tallies and orders on the Half Subsidies and other Duties anno 1708 remaining in the hands of the Navy Treasurer (being the last of the said tallies and orders in course) upon his assurance to my Lord that they shall not be disposed of but at such time and in such manner as shall not in any wise hurt the public credit. My Lord also agrees that the interest shall commence on the said orders from the day they shall be assigned to [sic ? for by] the said Mr. Whitfeild. |

The Gentlemen of the Bank are called in. They are desired to lend 20,563l. 1s. 2d. to pay the interest on the General Mortgage [Amortisation or Deficiencies Sinking Fund] for the year 1707. They desire that such money as the Bank has advanced or shall advance by direction from hence [from my Lord Treasurer] to Mr. How or Mr. Bridges or otherwise, may be repaid out of the 400,000l. [Bank contribution]; which is agreed to. |

They are also desired to advance 20,000l. to Mr. Bridges for recruits. |

My Lord Treasurer [promises them he] will take care that the 20,563l. 1s. 2d. which the Bank will lend to pay interest ut supra shall be made good to them again (with the interest thereof) in money within two months from this day. The Lord Chief Baron of [the Exchequer Court] Scotland and Baron Scrope are called in. The Lord Chief Baron mentions the list of Invalids to be very clamorous, says they are half a year in arrear. My Lord Treasurer resolves that a warrant shall be prepared to authorise Mr. Howe [Paymaster General of Guards and Garrisons] to pay them what is now due and what shall grow due to them, out of the poundage for the Troops under his pay. My Lord Treasurer is pleased to agree that the 20,563l. 1s. 2d. which the Bank of England are willing to advance, on a deposit of tallies on the General Mortgage for paying interest of loans on that fund, shall be repaid to them within two months together with interest at the rate of 6 per cent.: and that the 12,335l. 14s. 5d. formerly lent by the Bank on a like deposit for the same service shall be repaid within one month from the date, with like interest. |

My Lord also agrees that the 20,000l. which the Bank did yesterday agree to advance to Mr. Brydges, Paymaster of her Majesty's Forces Abroad, on a deposit of tallies on the twelfth 4s. Aid [or Land Tax] shall be repaid to them out of [i.e. shall be reckoned as in part of] the second payment [due to be made on the 28 June 1709] which they are to make on the 400,000l. [which by the Act 7 Anne c. 30 they are to advance into the Exchequer, secured on] the Excise Fund; with interest at 6 per cent. Treasury Minute Book XVII, p. 9. |
