1441. 10 Kal. May. Florence (f. 5d.)	To the priors of Holy Trinity, Ballyboggan (de Lauda dei) (fn. 2), and St. Mary's, Molynkeayr, in the diocese of Meath, and the archdeacon of Meath. Mandate to make provision to James Dalton, a canon of the Augustinian house or priory of Holy Trinity, Ballyboggan (de Lauda dei), in the diocese of Meath, if found fit, of the Augustinian monastery of SS. John and Peter, Clwanarde, in the said diocese, value not exceeding 20 marks sterling, void by the death without the Roman court of abbot Raynaldus; summoning and removing Peter Baston, [now] a canon thereof, who (after he had been by papal authority, on account of his demerits, deprived of the rule and administration of the said monastery, of which he was abbot, and after provision had been made thereof, thus void, by the said authority to the said Raynaldus, and after Raynaldus's said death, having been abbot for several years) took possession of the said rule and administration after and against the present pope's reservation of all monasteries (fn. 3), and otherwise without any canonical title, and has unduly detained the same for more than a year but less than two. In the event of their making provision to James, they are to grant to him that he may be blessed by any catholic bishop, who shall thereafter receive and send to the pope his oath of fealty as usual; without prejudice to the bishop of Meath, to whom the said monastery is by ordinary right subject. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Edmund, an Augustinian canon, son of John Fitzmoris (fn. 4), that John Oshannragayn, abbot of the Augustinian monastery of SS. Peter and Paul, Rathtuoig, in the diocese of Ardfert, has committed simony, is a public concubinary, and is reputed guilty in those parts of divers other crimes and excesses [not here specified]) if Edmund, who from fear of John's power has no hope of obtaining justice in the city or diocese of Ardfert, will accuse John before the above dean etc. as usual, to summon John, and if he find the above to be true to deprive John, and in that event to make provision of the said monastery, value not exceeding 40 marks sterling, to Edmund. In the event of his making provision to Edmund the dean is to bless him or grant that he may be blessed by a catholic bishop (fn. 5), after which he or such bishop shall receive and send to the pope his oath of fealty as usual. Mandate to make provision to Thomas Yronayn, a canon of the Augustinian monastery of Holy Trinity, Ballintober (Ville Fontis Sancti Patricii), in the diocese of Tuam alias Mayo, priest (who was lately dispensed as the son of a priest, professed of the said order, and an unmarried woman (i) by authority of the ordinary to be promoted to minor orders and hold a benefice without cure, (ii) after he had made his profession of the said order and had been promoted to all, even holy orders (fn. 6), to receive and retain by papal authority the perpetual vicarage of Omy in the said diocese of Tuam alias Mayo, in the event of its being granted to him in commendam in virtue of papal letters whereby it was ordered to be so granted to him) the said monastery, value not exceeding 40 marks sterling, void and reserved (under the pope's late reservation of all monasteries void by his provisions of other monasteries) by the provision which has been made, by vigour of letters of the pope [above, p. 129], to Cornelius, its abbot, of the Cistercian monastery of St. Mary, Knockmoy (Collis victorie). in the diocese of Tuam, of whose administration etc. the said Cornelius has obtained possession; whether the said monastery be void in the way stated, or by the death without the Roman court of Henry nuecolyn, or by the cession of the said Cornelius or Henry, or in any other way. In the event of their making the provision, they are to grant to Thomas that he may be blessed by any catholic bishop, and the pope hereby specially dispenses him on account of the said defect to hold the said monastery and exercise its administration, requiring him to resign the said vicarage, which was by vigour of the said letters granted to him in commendam, value not exceeding 3 marks sterling. The consecrating bishop shall send Thomas's oath of fealty to the pope as usual; without prejudice to the archbishop of Tuam or the bishop of Mayo, to whom the said monastery is by ordinary right subject. The archbishop is to grant that Doloys may be blessed by any catholic bishop, who shall thereafter send to the pope his oath of fealty as usual, and the pope hereby specially dispenses him, notwithstanding the said defect etc., to exercise the administration etc. Ex suscepte servitutis. 4 Kal. April. Florence (f. 75.)	To Branda, bishop of Sabina. Commission (the pope having been informed by Alexander Brady, a Cistercian monk of Cupar in the diocese of St. Andrews, that Thomas de Lewynston, [now] a monk, sometime abbot of the monastery of Dundranen in the diocese of Whiteherne, of the said order, remained at Basel after the pope's transfer of the Council thence to Ferrara and took part in its acts, thereby incurring deprivation etc.) to summon in audience of the pope's littere contradicte the said Thomas and others concerned, and if he find the above to be true, to proclaim the said Thomas (who, as Alexander alleges, is one of a number of persons expressly named in the pope's processes against the adherents of those who remained at Basel under pretext of a Council) to have been and to be deprived, and potiori pro cautela deprive him, and in that event to make provision of the said monastery, value not exceeding 80l. sterling, to the said Alexander, who is at present at the apostolic see, is a priest, and (believing, as he had heard, that a petition in the matter from him, then in those parts, had been signed by the pope's order and in his presence, and that the apostolic letters, for whose expedition he had sent the necessary money to the Roman court, had been drawn up) has engaged in the rule of the said monastery in temporals, without, however, receiving any of its fruits. Besides approving and confirming the acts of Alexander's said administration in temporals, the bishop is to grant that he may be blessed by any catholic bishop, who shall thereafter send his oath of fealty to the pope as usual. 5 Kal. July. Florence (f. 86.)	To the archdeacon of Elphin and the dean and William Ocharneayn, a canon, of Clonmacnoise (Cluanen.) Mandate (the pope having been informed by Rory Omadeyn, an Augustinian canon of St. Mary's, Thom, in the diocese of Killaloe, that William Omadeyn, abbot of St. Mary's de Portu puro in the diocese of Clonfert, of the said order, has committed simony and dilapidation and, being a homicide and a notorious fornicator and irregular, is held guilty (pernotatus habelur) of apostasy and many other vices and excesses [not here specified]) if Rory, who on account of William's power has no hope of obtaining justice in the city or diocese of Clonfert, will accuse William before them etc. as usual, to summon William, and if they find the above or two of them to be true, to deprive William. and in that event to make provision to Rory, if found fit, of the said monastery, value not exceeding 30 marks sterling.
