To John Crosseby, priest, of the diocese of Carlisle, I.U.B. Rehabilitation etc., as below. Martin V ordered him to be dispensed, notwithstanding homicide which he had committed, to be promoted to all … pleased, as above, Reg. Vat. CCCCXIV, f. 219; after which, as it was set forth on his behalf to the present pope, he obtained in virtue of the said dispensation the parish church of Bryghtwel in the diocese of Lincoln, collated to him by authority of the ordinary, end subsequently, without having obtained other dispensation, a canonry of Lincoln and the prebend of Thornegate and the treasurership of that church, void in a certain way [not here stated, see ibid.], also collated to him by authority of the ordinary, wherefore the pope rehabilitated him [ibid.], and dispensed him to retain for life the said rectory, treasurership and canonry and prebend (all which he still holds), with the power of exchanging them. (fn. 2) In order that he may not be deprived of the effect of the said letters, owing to the omission therefrom of mention of his illegitimacy as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman (on account of which he had been dispensed by papal authority to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure), and owing to his having held the said treasurership and canonry and prebend without obtaining other dispensation on account of the said defect, the pope hereby rehabilitates him, and grants that his said former rehabilitation and dispensation shall hold good as if they had mentioned his said illegitimacy and earlier dispensation on account thereof, and as if, at the time of the collations and provisions to him of the said canonry and prebend and treasurership he had been sufficiently and expressly dispensed, on account of the said defect, to hold them; with dispensation hereby to retain for life the said rectory, treasurership (which is the lowest (fn. 3) … camera respectively [as ibid.], and to receive and hold any compatible benefices of any number and kind, even if etc., and to resign them all, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases.Sedes apostolica, pia mater.
