Cause of office promoted by Arthur Duck LL.D., King's Advocate v Carew Raleigh of East Horsley, co. Surrey, esq

October 1639 - February 1640

Abstract

This was a cause of office in which Dr Duck prosecuted Raleigh for attempting to fight a duel with Sir William St Ravie, also involving Henry Percy and John Carey esqs. The testimony of Duck's prosecution witnesses was published on 4 February 1640; but no further proceedings survive. [For further details of the original incident, see cause 574].

Summary of proceedings

Dr Ryves acted as counsel to Raleigh. The testimony of Dr Duck's witnesses for the prosecution was published on 4 February 1640, in proceedings before Lord Maltravers in the Painted Chamber at Westminster.
